Marion County
Ocala, Florida
----Ocala is the county seat of Marion County
and is the largest city in the county. Being the hub of local
economic and cultural activity is an attractive feature. The
service and light manufacturing industries provide the majority
of employment opportunities, although agriculture is very important
to the area also. The job market here is fairly good especially
in the construction trade.
----Ocala/Marion County is noted for being
the "HORSE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD"

in many fields and adds nicely to the local economic base. Silver
Springs Attractions is a major anchor for tourism.
----75 percent of the Thoroughbred breeding
& training facilities are located near Ocala in Marion County.
In fact, Ocala/Marion County is one of only four major Thoroughbred
centers in the world.
----Ocala has 16 parks and playgrounds and
2 municipal swimming pools. A new, major YMCA resides here also.
Instruction in swimming, tennis and crafts is offered. Softball,
baseball, basketball, football, volleyball and bowling leagues
are also available.
----Eat at a different restaurant every day
if you wish, major hospitals in the area, plenty of excellent
doctors, good motels & hotels to put your visitors up in,
plenty of local attractions,
lots of recreation
areas, there is plenty of water for fishing and if you like to
hunt, the Ocala National Forest is just a step away. Want golfing?
Its here, prefer the beaches? just 45 up to 90 minutes away.
Marion County
----Of course Marion County was first inhabitated
by Indians, De Soto was the first European to visit and he claimed
the land for Spain. 1819 was the date Florida became part of
the United States with the first settlers coming soon thereafter.
The county was named after General Francis Marion. a leader in
the Southern effort during the Civil War.
----Marion is the 5th. largest county in
square miles. Central to Florida, the Atlantic Ocean is just
a 90 minute drive to the east through the wonderful "Ocala
National Forest". To the west is the Gulf of Mexico,
just a 45 minute drive through horse country.
----Marion County is centrally located in
Florida, well away from the major storm areas of Florida. The
excellent transportation system will lead you to many of the
largest city areas of Florida in short time and helps make Marion
County and Ocala an expanding area. A beautiful mild climate,
excellent water, a fantastic country side and the close proximity
to all the major tourist attractions make Ocala, Florida a top
ranking city in Florida. |
